My kindergardener loved it!
March 22, 2008

My 5-year-old took this home from the school library and loved it, so I bought it for her. (She had seen the Ice Age movie and understood about extinction and what a mammoth was.) The story has pleasant rhymes that impart information that can get used to discuss other animal behavior (how the moms protect their young, etc), and the pictures are very nice also. A great book for pre-K, early grade schoolers.

Excellent pictures
November 13, 2007

My 2.5 yo son love the pictures, and being a scientist, I was attracted by the factual information. The prose is a little clunky and it's hard for my son to understand that mammoths don't exist anymore. They look too much like elephants to him. It's okay...really beautiful pictures...but it's not a showstopper.

Not Impressed
October 02, 2007

I bought this book for my 2 year old son who LOVES animals and I thought he'd really enjoy it; however, this book did not capture his attention AT ALL. Not a "cute" story if that is what you are looking for. It's more factual than anything else. He might like it when he's a little older.
