Don't Bump the Glump!

While Shel Silverstein was planting The Giving Tree in our hearts and long before he took us to Where the Sidewalk Ends and switched on A Light in the Attic, he tickled our funnybones with a menagerie of most unusual creatures in Don’t Bump the Glump! and Other Fantasies. But just like the elusive Zumbies, the beloved poet’s very first collection of poetry was almost impossible to find—until now, that is. After more than three decades, the author’s only full-color poetry collection is back—and its ink and watercolor illustrations are absolutely marvelous! This is a must-have for every Silverstein fan. After all, where else are you going to find the Wild Gazite, the Flying Festoon, and the Squishy Squashy Staggitall? (All ages)

Not for the very young
July 25, 2010

I liked the stories and thought my almost 6 year old would love the silly pictures and stories. Not so much. We read, he said, "Mommy, I never want to read that again...it really freaked me out...take it away!" He made me take it out of his room. I am hoping that as he gets a little older, he may like it more. For now I am not taking any more chances on another night where he comes to my room because he has nightmares about the monsters in this book.

Lots of fun

If your child gets the humor in Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic, then they will like this. It's not nearly as long as either WTSE or ALITA. It is not a story with a lesson like The Giving Tree. It is a collection of short poems about various monsters. It is not a good book if your child has a fear of monsters. My 5 year old loves monsters and loves to get silly. This is a book to be silly and stimulate the imagination. We have read it multiple times. I would highly recommend it.

Long time Reader
April 11, 2009

While this was not my favorite Shel Silverstine book I still felt it very worth the purchase to add it to my collection of his works. Wish it had more to it, being an older reader I consumed it in under 45 minutes. So as I said highly recommend it for fans, but not his best stuff in my opinion.

A very entertaining book for children. Purchased a copy for our Great Grand Child and will get another to add to our Silverstein collection. Enjoy all of his books..keep them on hand for the youngsters in the family when they visit.

Loved it!

I really liked this one! While "The Giving Tree" is my favorite, it's kinda sad too. This one is all goofiness and fun!! I'll be sharing it with the kindergarten class where I volunteer and can hear their peels of laughter already!
