What would you do to thank the people who saved your life? When Greg Mortenson lost his way after attempting to climb K2, villagers from an impoverished Himalayan town helped nurse him back to health. This act of kindness inspired him to build schools for children in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Millions of us have already read his inspiring true story in Three Cups of Tea, the runaway bestseller that Tom Brokaw called “proof that one ordinary person, with the right combination of character and determination, really can change the world.” Now, Greg retells his story for kids in Listen to the Wind, an inspiring picture book filled with remarkable collages and lots of photos, too. Does anyone know the truth behind Mortenson's adventures?? Some speculation that he made it all up, or at least a lot of it, in order to profit...still, the story itself may be inspiring and whatnot, but it's certainly not based on truth...

A true story told in an entertaining style, this important book engages not only children but also adults. After the church I attend started collecting pennies to help build schools in faraway places as explained in the book, we put this book near the collection jar with a note to explain: why are we collecting pennies? Children as well as adults can read the book in only a few minutes and ultimately become a part of the story themselves.

A true story that is uplifting and inspiring, illustrated with gorgeous collage art. I had read "Three Cups of Tea" and wanted to share the story with younger readers. Now I can!

If you are a fan of "Three Cups of Tea" and the work Greg Mortenson is doing in Pakistan and Afghanistan, then this book is a must read for the younger children in your life. As an educator, I have personally shared this book with students in grades K-3 and they were fascinated!! A great book to teach children about "thinking globally" and being philanthropists. They're never too young to learn!!
