There is no sweeter love story for children than this treasured classic by E. B. White. The legendary writer at The New Yorker, famous essayist and award-winning author of Stuart Little and Charlotte’s Web cemented his place as one of the finest children's book authors in history in 1970 with The Trumpet of the Swan. It’s the tale of Louis, a swan who is born mute. When he's just a cygnet, he doesn't mind not being able to speak. But when he grows up and falls in love with a beautiful swan named Serena, he can’t tell her how he feels. Will Louis ever find a way to let her know what’s in his heart? We couldn't agree with John Updike more when he wrote in the New York Times, “We are lucky to have this book.” (Ages 9-12)

My daughter and her friend are both 8 and both advanced readers for their age. This book suited their reading level and was still appropriate for this age group.

A beautiful story about love, friendship, family and the need to fit in and belong. I loved this book and my my daughter enjoyed me reading it to her. Like Louis my daughter has a disability which limits her speech. She felt Louis and her were alike. Both beautiful and special.
