Take an adventurous ride with a young boy on the Polar Express—an old-fashioned steam train that takes children to the North Pole to see Santa off on his annual sleigh ride. There, the young boy not only chooses the first gift of Christmas—a silver bell from Santa’s sleigh—but he also discovers the true meaning of the season. Told through the eyes of Van Allsburg as a child, this 1986 Caldecott Medal Winner will bring the holiday spirit to every child and family that receives it. All ages.

My kids are mesmerized with this story, it has such a magical feeling to it. It is perfect for the Christmas season. I have a 3 yr old as well as a 5 yr old and they are equally mesmerized with it.

A truly sweet story about the gift of believing and the magic of Christmas. It has beautiful illustrations. Best of all, my children love it.

I'd heard about this book and the movie but never read it as a child. However, since my son (age 3 1/2)loves trains and it was near Christmas I thought I'd get it for him. I saved this book for his Christmas eve bedtime story and he loved it. I had to read it twice that night and every night for several nights after. He calls it the Christmas train book.

I remember when this book first came out, and now I read it to my own children. The book is amazing in both story and illustration, and I wish they carried more of his books (Jumanji, The Garden of Abdul Gasazi, The Z was Zapped... many more) on this site. I encourage any parent to find some of his other works.
